Employee Spotlight – Dan Haglund

Dan Haglund brings 18 years of experience to his role as Lead GIS Analyst for the Land Services team in St. Paul. He has been with Ulteig for more than eight years.  

“In simplest terms, I make maps,” Dan said. “But the maps we produce are data-driven and contain substantial amounts of vital information for our clients, often delivered via web and mobile applications. It’s like Google Earth on steroids.” The GIS team frequently uses the latest technology to create web mapping and data applications that are collaboratively used by employees and clients to more effectively manage and communicate on projects.  

At Ulteig, Dan created a pole tracking mapping application to manage the flow of information from initial field visits to the design and construction phases of pole replacement. He also designed a storm roster SharePoint application to help organize hundreds of electric crews responding to storm events. Dan has won a couple First Penguin awards as a result of his efforts.  

“I like working for Ulteig due to the variety of work I can do here. It is an ESOP company, has a relaxed atmosphere, flexible schedules and remote work flexibility,” Dan said. “And I also get to work on multiple projects without being pigeonholed.”
