Jen Turnbow appointed to N.D. Commission on Status of Women

Jen Turnbow, associate director of transportation, was recently appointed by Governor Doug Burgum to the North Dakota Commission on Status of Women.

In his letter of appointment, Gov. Burgum thanked Turnbow for her willingness to serve on the five-member volunteer board. “The Commission on Status of Women will benefit greatly from your diligent work as you help fulfill its mission and duties while also enhancing its capabilities,” he wrote.

The mission of the Commission is to improve the status of women in North Dakota, and its two focus areas are women’s leadership and equity. The Commission aims to elevate the work of organizations currently striving to improve the status of women in North Dakota and seeks to have a positive impact on increasing the number of women in leadership roles in North Dakota.

“I am honored to be a part of the promotion of women’s leadership and equity for the State of North Dakota. I’ve spent the last two decades working in industries that have largely been male-dominated,” Turnbow said. “With this experience, I will strive to promote women’s leadership with openness, understanding and compassion. I look forward to further representing and empowering the current and future women leaders in the state.”

The shared goal of Turnbow and her fellow board members is to understand issues affecting the wellbeing of North Dakota’s women and relay them to the Governor, the North Dakota Department of Commerce and to the state legislature. Turnbow’s appointment runs through June 30, 2024.
