Ulteig Wins APWA Award

October 7, 2015

On Wednesday, October 7, Ulteig accepted the Project of the Year award at the 87th Annual North Dakota Water & Pollution Control Conference for our work on the Sixth Street Parking Ramp in downtown Bismarck. The award was bestowed by the North Dakota Chapter of the American Public Works Association for communities with populations greater than 5,000.

This is the second award Ulteig has won for the parking ramp, which is owned by the City of Bismarck. The first award was given by the North Dakota Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for Excellence in Engineering.

This project is unique because it not only symbolizes both economic and population growth for the western part of North Dakota, but it’s an indicator of the revitalization of Bismarck, which in Forbes Magazine recently called ā€œthe seventh fastest-growing small city in America.ā€Ā

According to current projections, Bismarck is short roughly 3,000 parking spaces, with the majority of those needed for downtown working professionals. The Sixth Street Parking Ramp accommodates nearly 500 parking spaces, easing the daytime parking crunch, while creating a permanent structure and meeting the goals of Bismarck’s downtown master plan. This creates value for downtown and encourages more business to establish roots in that part of Bismarck as well as creates a high quality structure that has a significant impact to the downtown area and encourages people live and work in the downtown area.Ā
