Ulteig provided a comprehensive range of services to enhance protection, SCADA, and communication systems at the client’s hydroelectric plant. This pumped-storage facility utilizes reversible motor-generators that operate as generators during electricity production and as motors when the facility is in pumping mode.
Ulteig’s scope of work included engineering services such as demo and construction drawings, wire verifications, panel retrofit design and equipment procurement along with on-site field services that included construction, testing, commissioning, and start-up support. Additionally, Ulteig conducted a thorough review of the client’s protective relay settings, automation controller configurations, logic diagrams, and test plans to ensure a successful transition to modern microprocessor relaying in a retrofit application.
Relaying and other devices for the project included modern SEL generator and transformer protection relays, automation controllers, and RTD temperature monitoring devices.
The project required a detailed analysis to ensure compatibility with existing legacy protective schemes and control systems. Ulteig worked closely with the client to verify original facility drawings through field wiring checks, mitigate risk to adjacent in-service equipment and assess legacy systems for the seamless integration of modern relaying. By implementing a strategic approach, Ulteig ensured long-term reliability, enhanced protection, and improved operational capabilities for the facility.
