Our History
In 1944, our founder Melvin Ulteig started lighting things up through his vision to bring electricity to the Upper Midwest. Today, over 80 years later, Ulteig continues to expand our vision, serving clients in North America, offering solutions across four Lifeline Sectors and through the dedicated work of our 1,300+ employee-owners. Whether 1944 or today, we have never lost sight of the deep commitment Mel had to clients, to collaboration and to solutions that make a difference.
Workplace Safety & Protecting Employee Lives
Ulteig is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace throughout its offices and worksites and to making every effort to eliminate adverse environmental conditions within its operations. As part of Ulteig’s ongoing commitment to meet or exceed client safety standards and practices, all employees undergo yearly safety training prior to working in the field. The National Safety Council awarded Ulteig the “Million Work Hours Award” which recognizes companies that have zero injuries or illnesses involving time away from work for at least one million consecutive work hours. In 2023 we surpassed 2 Million hours!
