To improve the accuracy, transparency and effectiveness of transmission line ratings, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) ISSUED ORDER 881. Within this order, FERC outlined specific requirements for public utility transmission providers to enhance their systems and improve their grid management capabilities.
Complying with Order 881 and determining inter-regional transfer capability will require new levels of transmission system capability and control, which is difficult for the power grid to accommodate.
